During this past Intergeo 2014 in Berlin, we had the pleasure to have Lisa Makelberge selected as the winner of our Giveaway contest. Lisa won a Spectra Precision FOCUS 35 Robotic Total Station.
Lisa is 21 years old, lives in Belgium and is a third year student studying for a Bachelor Degree in Real Estate with specialization in land surveying at the University College Ghent.
University College Ghent was founded in 1995 and has a multitude of knowledge domains represented in the study programs and research activities ranging from technological programs over the healthcare industry to the arts. It consists of four faculties and a Centre for Entrepreneurship.
The faculty of Science and Technology offers seven professional bachelor programs: Agro and biotechnology, chemistry, electro mechanics, wood technology, fashion technology, textile technology (which is unique to Flanders) and real estate. A professional bachelor program consists of 180 ECTS credits, which corresponds to six semesters. The bachelor in real estate consists of two disciplines – land surveying and real estate management. Students start in one of these two options in the first year. The curricula consist of general courses, engineering courses, legal courses and specific land surveying or real estate management courses. The students in land surveying are trained in making and signing plans and selecting and applying surveying techniques…
Lisa mentioned “The study of land surveying is a very practical course, where we often have to work outside. To expand my knowledge, I will go to Spain in February on a three month internship. More specifically to the region South of Alicante. In this region there is still a lot of building expansion, both private homes and residential complexes. The extensions of golf courses are rising. Spain is also a country with a different culture and habits than Belgium. It gives me the opportunity to discover land surveying in a different geographic area and learn the Spanish language. My intention is to use the new Spectra Precision FOCUS 35 robotic total station on my internship in the company “Las Collinas”.
When we visited Intergeo a few weeks ago, I knew of the existence of Spectra Precision, but I did not have a chance to work with this kind of total station during my studies. My fellow students are also very curious how the total station works.
Now that I have won the FOCUS 35 total station, it gives me the opportunity, and a big boost, to have a career as an independent land surveyor.
Once again I would like to thank you. Because by winning this total station, I can fulfill my dream to be a land surveyor.”
