Riga, Latvia November 25-2013- The Second Annual Latvian Esri GIS User Conference, held October 15-16 at the Citadele Conference Hall in Riga, attracted 190 GIS professionals from all over Latvia. Fifty-two public and private sector organizations were represented, including attendees from forestry, aviation, telecommunications, sanitary services, education, civil security, utilities, defense, agriculture and environmental services.
The opening day plenary session featured an ESRI presentation “What’s new in ArcGIS 10.2”; and conference host and sponsor, SIA Envirotech, reviewed the latest developments in mobile mapping technology including eBee aerial mapping, Spectra Precision MobileMapper 10 and Spectra Precision MobileMapper 120 GNSS solutions.
The plenary session continued with ten user presentations on GIS applications, mobile solutions and experiences. Application topics ranged from encoding and data conversion tools and methods, agricultural land applications, water resources and sewage treatment, digital surface modeling and erosion studies, and drainage cadastral geographic data use on mobile devices.
Typical of the presentations was one by Aldis Deglis of Bergvik Skog, one of the largest private forestry companies in Europe, on how the company is deploying Spectra Precision MobileMappers in their operations. The second day of the conference featured elective technical sessions.
