Kenya Land Survey Efforts Aided with Spectra Precision Equipment
SPECTRA GEOSPATIAL

Nairobi (June 8th, 2015) — The Kenya Department of Surveys has acquired eight FOCUS 30 total stations and an additional eight EPOCH 50 GNSS receivers as part of an ongoing major effort to adjudicate land and prepare deeds. According to Lands Cabinet Secretary, Charity Ngilu, until recently 67 percent of Kenya had yet to be adjudicated even as the work was supposed to be completed within 20 years after it was commissioned in 1957 by the British colonial government. To rectify the problem the government of President Uhuru Kenyatta two years ago began a major new push to produce three million titles by 2017. Recently, it was announced by the Land Surveys Department that 800,000 title deeds had been prepared and are being distributed.

The new Spectra Precision equipment is also being used in the construction of the Lamu Port Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) project, a new transport corridor comprised of a railway, fiber optic cable and oil pipeline that will connect South Sudan and Ethiopia, through Kenya, to the port city of Lamu, Kenya.

Oakar Services Ltd., a leading East Africa geospatial firm, provided the consulting services that led to the Department of Land Survey’s purchase of the Spectra Precision total stations and GNSS receivers.
