ProMark 500 Collects 5,000 As-built Sewage System Points in Six Weeks
SPECTRA GEOSPATIAL

Ermont, France, 2012 — GNSS speed and accuracy are achieving new levels of performance with the ProMark 500. In a recent application in the city of Ermont, a ProMark 500 was used in six-weeks time to create an as-built-plan of the city’s entire sewage system by capturing more than 5000 centimeter-level accurate effluent entrance points in x, y and z coordinates.

The job to collect the entire sewage system inventory consisting of all drains, entrances, manhole covers and slope and flow directions was to commence using a total station. However, when speed and productivity was deemed insufficient to complete the job on time, the chartered surveying company of Sarl, Picot and Merlini, which had no previous experience with GNSS equipment, acquired a ProMark 500 together with the MobileMapper CX field terminal and supplemented with a subscription to the Orpheon reference station network to complete the work on time.

Work proceeded very quickly according to Alain Merlini, lead field engineer, because of the “mobility, easy-of-use and very fast initialization of the ProMark 500.” Merlini added that he was “amazed how well the receiver tracked signals even under bridges and tree canopy.”

The ProMark 500 offers access to three constellations (GPS, GLONASS and SBAS) through its embedded BLADE technology that provides a unique patented way to use multiple GNSS constellations for high-accuracy positioning. BLADE also insures fast initialization and long-range accuracy. The ProMark 500 offers robust signal tracking, advanced multipath mitigation, high availability of satellites in difficult conditions, and field replaceable batteries that last a full workday. Spectra Precision dealer Georges Pauchard, Mesures et Systemes, headquartered in Chantilly, provided the ProMark 500.
